Journey Through Lent with “Vibrant Faith!”

Pastor Dave Anderson (our guest for a weekend of Vibrant Faith last fall) recently said in a blog: “We live in anxious times! People say their lives are in crisis! So why aren’t we making time for the Great Healer?”

Why not make time for ways you can embrace…and be embraced by…Vibrant Faith this Lent!!!

“A Daily Word from Jesus”–Each day of Lent, those on Emmanuel’s email list will receive words spoken by Jesus…just a verse or two to ponder as the day goes on. God spoke about Jesus: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!” So start your day by letting your ears…and heart…listen to the message Jesus is speaking to you!

“Taking Faith Home”–This resource is available each week…encouraging your ongoing “caring conversations, prayers and devotions, service, rituals and traditions” long after you leave 2589 Chain Bridge Road on Sunday!

“Lenten Small Groups”–There are a variety of times, subjects, and leaders for you to experience conversation and growth this spring. Join one of Emmanuel’s Lenten studies. You may be surprised what six weeks can do to heal and renew your spirit!

“Midweek Worship”–after our 7:30 Ash Wednesday Service on Feb 22, Emmanuel’s Midweek Lenten services move to 7:00 pm (preceded by a simple soup supper). This year we will follow the “Holden Village Prayer Around the Cross” liturgies for healing…quiet, meditative services of song, readings, and prayers

“Offerings to Stop Hunger Now”–Last year, Emmanuel raised over $17,000 to help eradicate malaria. This Lent, we challenge every member to set aside $1 a day from Ash Wednesday, February 22 through Good Friday, April 6th. Because $1 purchases four meals to “Stop Hunger Now,” each of us can potentially feed 180 people at our Easter celebration. Think of the Feast of Joy that will be!!!

REVELATION – ALL REQUEST SUNDAY

WORSHIP – YOUR WAY! AN ALL REQUEST SUNDAY:
Each Sunday morning for the next few weeks, YOU can be
part of Revelation’s Sunday morning worship planning.
Look for the volunteer form on the back of the bulletin
for your opportunity to nominate your favorite song or hymn.
Vote as many times as you’d like with as many different
songs as you would like.
Once the campaign is over, Geoff and Rick will tally the
results and plan a worship service comprised totally of
your favorites. If you need help in remembering the songs,
a list of some of the songs we’ve done over the past few months
can be seen if you click here.
And remember, we’re following the “Chicago” rules of
voting which means “vote early and vote often.”

Lenten Worship Times

Join us February 22, 2012 for Ash Wednesday Services at 6:00 a.m., 12:00 Noon, and 7:30 p.m.

Also, every Wednesday in Lent, we will have a contemplative worship event at 7:00 p.m. preceded by a Soup Supper at 6:00 p.m.

Vacation Bible School – 2012

Our Vacation Bible School will be held July 23 – July 27, 2012. Please open and complete the Registration and Medical Information forms and return to Emmanuel. Our summer school fills quickly so do not delay.

Sign up today – Groups meet for 5 weeks beginning the week of February 26^th at Emmanuel. Any questions about the studies, please see Kathy and/or the study leader. By signing up, you will receive further information about the study!

Sundays@12:30 p.m. Meditations on the 7 Last Words of Christ. Bring a bag lunch. Led by: Mary Frances Dini and Janelle Neubauer

Sundays@4:30 p.m. Making Sense of the Cross. Led by: Pastor Mark Edwards. This study gives you the opportunity to listen in on a conversation with two people having an open and candid discussion about the cross. The heart of the cross is an element of mystery that can’t be resolved either easily or entirely. Come join in this lively study.

Tuesdays@8:30 a.m. An Altar in the World by Barbara Taylor Brown. Led by: Kathy Uffelman

Wednesdays@1:30 p.m. Freedom from Tyranny of the Urgent by Charles Hummel. The author highlights Biblical teaching on the stewardship of time. He gives personal illustrations and practical tips on living wisely. Led by: Chris Moyer

Wednesdays@4:30 p.m. Love Wins by Rob Bell. Led by: Andrew Buck

Wednesdays@7:30 – 8:45 p.m. Healing Life’s Hurts: A Study on the Stages of Forgiveness. No book purchase is necessary. Led by: Pastor Beth Neubauer

Use these daily bible readings at your dinner table or the mealtime prayer suggestion. Perhaps ask your child (or yourself!) to memorize the scripture verse for the week.
