Education Ministry
Christian Education means passing on more than knowledge and content. It means inviting people to live, practice, and share their faith 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In true Lutheran understanding, teachers and Pastors cannot shape or form faith in others. Only God can do that. Often God surprises us, nudging, shaping, freeing, loving, and confronting us. It is God who calls, gathers and sustains us as we discover His love made known through Jesus Christ.
Through effective Christian education we partner with God to provide the space and the place for the Holy Spirit to inspire us along our faith journey and give us a deeper appreciation and understanding of the faith that has been planted in us. We look forward to becoming stronger disciples in the year ahead and in growing in our relationship with one another!
Emmanuel offers Sunday School classes for all ages…young children, junior- and senior-high, and adults during a dedicated Sunday School hour from 10:00 to 11:00am. This will ensure that all members of the Emmanuel family have an opportunity to worship and participate in Christian learning. Classes we are offering include:
* Our Three-Year Old through 6th Grade classes will use the Faith Weaver curriculum. The goal of the Faith Weavers curriculum is to weave faith in Jesus Christ into all areas of learners’ lives. By using Faith Weaver from three years through the sixth grade all of our learners will be studying the same Bible story. Siblings and friends can share what they have studied in Sunday school and integrate what they have learned into daily life.
* Junior High youth will study a variety of topics that are relevant to their lives and going deeper into scripture. They will have some offsite experiences throughout the year. For example, during Lent the junior high students will study grief and will visit a local funeral home.
* High School youth will study a variety of topics relevant to their lives. Classes will be facilitated by Seniors in high school and by 3 adult leaders, and will include a lot of small group discussion.
* Adults can choose from a number of great course opportunities at 10:00, including a Bible Study led by the pastors, an “adult forum” that focuses on issues of the day, faith, society, parenting, and popular culture.
