ALL are Welcome

Emmanuel's youth programs are organized and run by youth and adult volunteers of all ages. As our ministry grows, new teams are created to serve where passions and needs present themselves.

Three Course Meal "3CM"

  • February's  3CM is on the 12th @ 6:00.
  • 3CM is entirely free and consists of a meal, activity, and devotion to provide a time to be fed physically, relationally, and spiritually, together.
  • Junior High students not involved in the confirmation program are more than welcome to join

Trips & Retreats

  • Trips, retreats, and lock-ins are planned throughout the year
  • Rising 7th-9th graders can participate in Diaconos (July 8-12), a servant trip in a summer camp setting.
  • We have participated in the 30 Hour Famine weekend and the summer servant week to the Pittsburgh Project

Fundraising

  • Quarterly fundraising events are planned to support our every-three-years pilgrimage to the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering. The next Gathering will be held in New Orleans on July 18-22, 2012.
  • Fundraising also supports youth with financial needs attending servant trips
  • Some of our fundraising activities include our annual Rummage Sale, holiday child care, and Pancake Suppers
  • 10% of the profit from current fundraising efforts support current relief efforts
If you have an idea for a new team, or would like to help out with an existing one, contact Shirley, the Youth Team Leader, at shirleyclark@cox.net. All adults who work with youth in any capacity must be certified in our Child Protection Policy.

Congregational & Synodical

Students are encouraged to participate in every area of the congregation including...
  • Worshipping and assisting in worship (8:45 & 11:15 Sunday mornings)
  • Participating in or teaching Sunday School (Sundays at 10AM)
  • Joining the youth praise band (R2), choir, or drum circle
  • Summer Drama Camp & Vacation Bible School
  • So much more
We are also actively involved within the Metro D.C. Synod

Confirmation Program

Every Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m., when FCPS is in session, is "Confirmation Night" for our 7th and 8th grade students preparing for their Affirmation of Baptism. An average evening consists of dinner, "free" time, and a large group presentation followed by small group discussion centered around the Re:form curriculum. Adult and High School teen "guides" play a big part in this formative time for our middle schoolers. Parents of students are also encouraged to sit in on large group, participate in their own small group, and join the Youth Prayer Team in the chapel from 6:00-6:45
