Worship Through Music
Enjoy music? We do too—making music is a vital part of worship and congregational life at Emmanuel.
You’ll have many ways to praise through performance or lift up by listening. Join us as we “come into the Lord’s presence with singing!” (Psalm 100:2)
You may hear your favorite songs...
You’ll find contemporary praise songs, classic hymns, and small-group style music at our Sunday services. Of course, holidays offer a special chance to praise through song and music. Additionally, you’ll discover family concerts, jazz and special performances, music-focused faith formation opportunities, and many other ways to experience God through music.
If you are a fan of church hymns and often find yourself curious about their origins, or the type who likes to be prepared, you’re in good hands. Our director of music, Robert Morehead, provides a sneak peek at our hymn of the week and its history here.
Sing or share music in praise…
You’ll find that our Director of Music, Robert Morehead shares your enthusiasm for music and its spiritual power—please let him know of your interest.
If you love to sing, you may find a home in the Sanctuary, Cross-Generational, Pickup, or WOW choirs. These groups are comprised of a range of experience levels but all provide great camaraderie.
If you enjoy playing an instrument, we’d love to include you in a group or individual setting.
Please see offerings below by age for ways you can get involved.
Get involved in our music ministry!
Through choral literature, instrumental and vocal ensembles, as well as the congregation’s voices, we bring hymns of praise and thanksgiving to our Lord. If you have any questions about the music ministry at Emmanuel, please contact us using the form below.
For Kids: Wonders Of Worship (WOW) Children’s Ensemble
Your kids will love being part of this dynamic choir! They’ll practice blending movement or other creative arts with their singing. The kids of WOW (K through 12th) sing on Christmas Eve and three other times a year. You’ll find it’s easy to participate—just one rehearsal the Saturday before.
For All Ages: Cross Generational Choir (yes, from 1-100)
You and your whole family—including Grandma—can enjoy the community and fun of this all-ages choir. Participants sing about two times a year. It’s easy for you all to attend—and you don’t even have to make dinner—rehearsals are on Tuesdays and feature an optional dinner beforehand. Music tracks are posted online. You must attend at least one rehearsal to sing at the service.
For All Ages: Gifts of Special Music
Your musical gifts are welcome at Emmanuel. Robert is delighted to incorporate any musical talent you have at a worship service. You’ll be invited to meet with him when mutually convenient to prepare and practice, then he’ll schedule your musical offering for sharing with the congregation.
For All Ages: Pickup Choirs
You may find these singing groups popping up at times, and like a pickup game, they are open to anyone who shows up. Rehearsal takes place one hour before the service and then everyone sings at the service. Two of our most popular pickup choirs are the “No Excuses” choir and the “Stars and Stripes Singers.” Dates are announced in advance.
For All Ages: Special Opportunity to Collaborate
You’re invited to join for special music, song, and hymn leadership at our 6:00 pm Sunday Worship services! At this time, there are opportunities for all 6:00 pm worship services through the end of this year. Robert is willing to meet to rehearse whenever you’re available and is excited to give all musicians a chance to share their musical gifts.
For Adults: Revelation
Revelation is Emmanuel’s principal praise band, leading the congregation in worship and song at the contemporary 8:30 am service. Participation in Revelation is open to singers and instrumentalists committed to leading the congregation in song and an enthusiasm for contemporary praise music.
For Adults: Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir is Emmanuel’s adult choral ensemble, leading the congregation each week in worship at the 11:00 am service from September through May, and for special services during Advent and Lent. Participation in Sanctuary Choir is open to anyone who has a commitment to being a worship leader and enthusiasm for traditional and contemporary choral music.
