Vicar Maddie Tallman

Vicar Madeline “Maddie” Tallman joined the Emmanuel community in December 2018 as a full-time pastoral intern.

Maddie is a third-year student at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where she is pursuing a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Hispanic ministry. In 2016, Maddie earned her B.A. in journalism at the University of Maryland.

Maddie has served as a volunteer with the ELCA Metro DC Synod. In the fall of 2015, she became the first on-site coordinator of a Synod-sponsored “young adult intentional community” in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she led weekly Bible studies, individual prayer, Bible reading and regular activities with the immediate community as a way of building new ministries. This followed a year of service in Argentina through the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program.

As an intern, Maddie assists Tony in carrying out the ministry work at Emmanuel, including preaching at Sunday services, visiting Emmanuel’s members, and other duties. You can read Maddie’s sermons and follow her faith journey on her blog.
